This is how the future Sony (and Olympus camera?) sensor will work!

This is the detailed description of the new Sony APCS (Active Pixel Color Sampling) sensor. The first of these new generation sensor will be launched in early 2015 on compact smartphones. Larger sensors for Alpha cameras (and Olympus MFT cameras?) are supposed to be launched after.

The new sensor has an electrified color filter that moves horizontally. It takes three exposure pictures (Red-Green-Blue) and merges them into one. The advantages are:

- One single pixel has 100% full color info (Bayer sensors need more pixels)

- Pixels can be larger compared to current Bayer sensors. This means less noise (or more resolution) possible

- Sensor has also Global shutter with very fast frame rates (16,000 at 2K) and no jello effect

- Very high native sensitivity of around 5,000 ISO!

On paper the only drawback is the triple exposure needed to get the full color information. We don't know how this will effect long exposure shots or shots on moving subjects!

We have added the final images to the 'Faces of Phase One' album. Meet Søren and Peter - who might remind you of someone? It has been great to introduce some of the Phase One employees to y'all !

The images are a project captured by our colleague Alexander Flemming Photography.

We hope you have enjoyed the images of #PhaseOne employees, captured with a Phase One camera system, processed in #CaptureOne, all done by a Phase One employee at the Phase One office! That's #proimaging

Have a great weekend all !

Faces of Phase One

Phase One is what the World’s best photography is made of and we are proud to see what the best photographers in the World are capable of achieving with a Phase One camera system and Capture One imaging software. We are capable of raising the bar for photography because our team is made of real and passionate people. These images, Faces of Phase One, give you the opportunity to meet some of those people here at Phase One and we will introduce you to even more faces every Friday until mid November. The images are captured by our colleague and photographer Alexander Flemming. They are part of the project ‘Faces of Phase One’ where Alexander aimed at making a series of images that were Phase One from the beginning to end. The Images show Phase One employees, photographed by a Phase One employee, using a Phase One camera system and processed in Phase One’s software, Capture One. The images were of course captured on sight in the studio at the Phase One headquarters, located in Copenhagen Denmark. We must again stress that these handsome men are in fact actual Phase One employees and not models. Of course it must be mentioned that we are not always so serious and dressed in fancy suits, nor are we always so moody looking at the office. The Phase One family is made up of all kinds of people and we hope you’ll be happy to meet some more of them soon.Alexander also captures photographs outside of the Phase One office. You can follow his work through Alexander Flemming Photography or on his website http://ift.tt/103KI1V #phaseone #captureone from Phase One's Facebook Wall

Søren is head of our firmware team, and has been designing and developing firmware for our digital backs since 2007. One of Sørens hobbies is music and he has performed several times at Roskilde Festival in his earlier years, believe it or not. His instrument of choice is the guitar and we had the pleasure of his musical skills when he performed with the Phase One Band at our latest company party.

Peter is another one of our software engineers on the Mac team. He actually started on the Windows team in 2008. Lately, Peter has been focusing on developing the Capture Pilot app, making everything work as smoothly as possible. When Peter is not developing at Phase One, he likes to spend his free time inline speed skating - regardless of weather. He has an all-time favourite video game. Can you guess which game it is?
